Abstract

Eating disorders are complex psychiatric disorders that require the care of a multidisciplinary team, which also includes the figure of the Professional Educator. This paper describes the design of an educational workshop using the Digital Storytelling (DST) method carried out during the internship at the Day Hospital of the Centre for Eating Disorders of Aulss 8 in Vicenza. DST is a method that helps people to tell and reflect on their personal stories and experiences through the creation of digital stories in the form of short videos, 3-5 minutes. The feasibility of the intervention was assessed by providing a questionnaire investigating the areas of self-expression and self-awareness, active and reflective participation in the experiences, communication within the group and knowledge of the method. The answers before and after the intervention were analysed and compared with a control group. The DST emerges as a valid tool to stimulate personal competences and promote empowerment, with a possible application in educational practice in different areas.
