Educazione linguistica e rappresentazioni della disabilità in famiglie migranti di origine bangladese. Risultati di un’indagine condotta nel territorio di Venezia.

Abstract

In the present paper the author presents the main representations of language education and disability of Bangladeshi migrant families living in Venice. Moreover, the author presents how those representations could create problems in intercultural communication between migrant families and social operators. Data were collected during two focus groups realized together with the support of social workers of the Municipality of Venice during a research that started in October 2018 and ended in March 2020. Among the main findings, it is clear that families do not know which language use in the language education of their children. It is also necessary to employ intercultural and interlinguistic mediators in order to facilitate the communication between social-workers and migrant families. It is also necessary to take into consideration new different social educational and healthcare services in order to face the needs of families who live in a situation of marginalization and vulnerability, especially in families with children with disability.
