Abstract: Around the world, people who experience a mental disorder face not only symptoms and disability, but also stigma, a kind of "second disease" that lasts a long time, often even when the mental disorder is no longer overwhelming. Unpredictable, dangerous, suffering from incurable diseases. These are the common places that make it more difficult for people with mental health problems to recover and be accepted in work, emotional and social contexts. Stigma related to mental illness takes two main forms, one social/public and one internalized (self-stigma). The different forms of stigma, their disastrous consequences, and the main strategies to counteract them will be analyzed.
