The measures implemented by governments to prevent/contrast the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic have disrupted the spatial and temporal continuity of our lives. In particular, in the field of mental health, this has meant the interruption of many educational and rehabilitation programs, which were an integral part of the daily life of patients. By examining some publications/practices reported in the last months, we give an account of some life experiences of patients struggling with mental health issues during the lockdown. We will start reflecting on the meaning of isolation and social distancing in the history of psychiatry, later discussing the significance they currently have for people who live in a situation of psychological distress. Finally, we will reflect on new and old difficulties, fragilities, and various forms of stigmatization that emerged or re-emerged in the mental healthcare field due to the recent pandemic crisis.
