the contribution intends to propose a pedagogical insight into Franco Basaglia’s thought to underline its importance and significance, precisely in a moment of difficulty such as that of the health emergency for the Covid-19 pandemic. In fact, in the last period, the mental well-being of each of us has been severely tested by the experience of severe discomforts resulting from the restrictions and changes imposed by the health situation, which have caused an increase in experiences of mental discomfort. Precisely in a moment of fatigue and emergency, therefore, which also leads public opinion following recent news events to question and criticize the setting of the Italian mental health services, it seems important to draw attention to some points of Basaglia’s thought, to illuminate the possibility of an educational direction to take care of the mental distress that goes beyond custodial and institutionalizing logic.
