In an increasingly interconnected and complex world, the need to promote a “politics of humanity” (Morin, 2020) finds concrete expression in the educational experiences of Coop. Il Portico. Childcare services are opening up to the local area through projects such as the outdoor classroom - the sea - a place of “free and open encounter” for 3-6 years, and the child-friendly city for 0-3 years, promoting participatory citizenship. Places of connection with and within the community offer meaningful experiences, support conscious individual and relational growth, and encourage selfeducation by promoting, from an early age, a sense of belonging to a community of discourse (Mortari, 2025). Experience shows how synergy between the third sector and public bodies can generate educational innovation, intertwining pedagogy, urban planning, construction and the environment with a view to caring for the citizens of tomorrow.
