Abstract

Cultural place influences directly urban identity, acting as a point that generate meaning, a sense of community and belonging, and increasingly works as spaces for individual and collective development as well as catalysts for social inclusion (Sandell, 2007) within the framework of cultural welfare approach (Mancaniello et al., 2023). This transformation entails the integration of accessibility in the structures, influencing every aspect: from space design to managing activities (Ciaccheri, 2024; Marone, 2023; XXX, 2024) and assigns educators a strategic role in urban transformation, positioning them as mediators between cultural heritage and local communities. This paper presents the findings of the exploratory survey “Accessible Culture: An Exploratory Investigation” conducted across cultural sites within the metropolitan city of Naples. The survey mapped facilities, educational services, accessibility facilitators, and professional profiles. The results feed into the activities of the PRIN 2022 project “CHECK OUT – Cultural Heritage and Educating Communities,” which aims, among its goals, to provide a pedagogical reinterpretation of the professional profiles involved in the promotion and betterment of cultural heritage.
