Abstract

The formation of professional self-concept in socio-educational and socio-health sectors is shaped by two concurrent and often conflicting dynamics: a progressive orientation toward inclusion and the co-design of urban welfare, and a neoliberal orientation grounded in productivity and competitiveness. This tension frequently produces hybrid solutions that implicitly and profoundly redefine the notions of ‘self-formation’ and ‘citizenship’. In order to analyse these changes, a series of seminars was launched to create an alternative space-time – plural, interdisciplinary, and intersectional – for exploring both enduring and emerging forms of oppression and for cultivating a critical, transfeminist and decolonial professional posture. The seminars have fostered collaborative practices among students, professors and practitioners, aimed at reimagining the city as an educational community. This paper analyzes insights emerging from these seminars, highlighting their implications for both the citizens who engage with urban welfare services and the professionals who sustain them through their daily work.
